About Us

PHILOSOPHY

The development of the student medical journal has largely been motivated by an ideal vision of medical students sharing their medical research, opinions and experience to inspire, connect and inform each other. It seeks to provide an additional medium where students may publish their research, communicate their views on topical issues, gain further insights into clinical and career education and develop a greater understanding of scientific journal publication processes.

The concept of this student journal formed the basis of a final year student population health project at the Australian National University Medical School. Final year students designed and formulated the vision, content, title, website and operational guidelines for this student journal. The first issue of the Medical Student Journal of Australia was launched in October 2009 and MSJA will continue to be maintained by medical students who will form the Editorial Board responsible for the day-to-day running of the journal and the production of an issue twice a year in June and October. Both student peer reviewers and other experts provide relevant and thorough feedback on research and other articles from students.

The most important readership of the journal is the medical student. The Editorial Board will aim to tailor every issue of the journal specifically with this context in mind to ensure readership, relevance and accessibility. The scope of the journal includes research and other publications of relevance to the medical student community.
